A Star in the East
Adults and children alike love and look forward to Christmas. The world has done a fantastic job marketing a secular practice of Christmas to the masses. Many schools and organizations shut down for two weeks to allow students and employees to enjoy the “holiday” season with their families. Entire neighborhoods decorate the outside of their homes with bright lights, music, and Christmas trees. Parents, wanting their children to experience the splendor of the lights, slowly drive through the exhibit to the “oohs and aahs” of elated children. It is a fun time of year that encourages the exchange of gifts among families and friends. I enjoy this time of year, too, and there is certainly nothing wrong with partaking in its cheerfulness. Yet, for the believer, we are excited for an entirely different reason.
Matthew 2:2 reminds us of the true meaning of Christmas. “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”
To quote Social Media, “That’s it, that’s the post.” There is nothing more to say because the post says it all. The two-sentence scripture of Matthew 2:2 reminds the believer of God’s promise to give us a King to deliver us and that we are to worship Him because He is the giver of life.
As we enter this season, let’s remember the significance of the star in the East. God fulfilled His promise to deliver His children.
May God keep you and bless you,
